Our non-profit of the week is One Million Lights. Their mission is to improve the daily lives of children and adults by providing clean and healthy lighting. Their goal is to distribute one million (1,000,000) solar lights to replace dangerous and polluting kerosene lamps.
One Million Lights provides clean, safe, affordable solar lighting to rural communities around the world through their international distribution programs, made possible by partnerships and donations. These solar lights enable children to study at night and adults to extend their workday, all while eliminating carbon emissions, improving household health, and greatly increasing income savings.
Jennifer Greene, One Million Lights' Director of Operations, says:
HELIO provides clean, renewable and safe energy for all of life’s adventures. It is powerful, can light up your path in the dark, give you a soft reading light and charge all of your devices when you are off grid.
One Million Lights was able to accomplish the following social good works, through the funding of our successful HELIO Kickstarter Campaign:
- Provide 100 portable solar lights to their "Rape Hurts" program which supplies them to girls and women in Uganda to help keep them safe on their daily walking routes.
- Provide 100 solar lights to their "Rural Elderly Care" program which allows grandparents in Uganda to better care for their grandchildren, orphaned due to the AIDS epidemic.
- Provide 100 HELIO lights to students without access to electricity, to improve their studying ability after dark and to help them achieve a better education.
On behalf of everyone here at Makers4Good, thanks to all of our HELIO customers and Kickstarter backers for making the world a little brighter!
